Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann pulled off a memorable performance against India in the third Test on Wednesday, March 1 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore in the 2023 Border Gavaskar Trophy. He was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors in the first innings. The left-arm spinner joked that he could play for the rest of his life at the Indore Stadium.
Matthew Kuhnemann took a five-wicket haul in the innings, conceding only sixteen runs. He destroyed the Indian batting attack, which faltered to counter his bowling. The hosts were bowled out for a paltry 109 runs. Speaking about his performance, the Australian spinner said,
“I could live here and play the rest of my career here, this is awesome. We just talked about bowling the same ball and owning my space. Nathan Lyon was excellent out there. Even after a couple of wickets, he said, ‘Don’t get ahead of yourself, just think about bowling that ball.’
“He was great for me, at mid-off most of the day. Not every day you get these wickets like so enjoy them, it’s very different to what we get back home in Australia,” he added.
The Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann revealed that he is a massive fan of Indian spin duo Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin. He praised Ravindra Jadeja and added that the all-rounder has promised to teach him some bowling tricks. Matthew Kuhnemann further also spoke about learnings from the second Test against India. He said,
“I’m a massive fan of Jadeja and Ashwin so watch how they have bowled in the last few years. I said, ‘Have you got any tips for me after the last Test?’ He said, ‘Yes, at the end of the series.’
“The way he uses his crease and probably the biggest thing I picked up in Delhi is that he brings his length back a little bit when the ball gets older. That’s probably the main thing I took out of the second Test and brought into this Test, probably my length,” he added.
After bowling India out for 109 runs, Australia is at 156/4 after the end of the first day’s play. They are leading by 47 runs in the first innings, so far. Peter Handscomb is at the crease with Cameron Green.
